Session Recap

01

Waking in the night is normal

Sleep moves through recurring cycles, commonly averaging around 90 minutes, with brief periods of waking up possible between them. Many people simply return to sleep without remembering that they woke. Its not the waking up that matters so much as the reaction we have to these wakings (e.g. frustartion, worry, stress).

Sleep aids can create pressure

Eye masks, earplugs, supplements and other sleep aids may improve comfort or give the sense of helping yourself, but they are not prerequisites for sleep. Problems can develop when a helpful option becomes something you believe must be present or must work.

03

More effort is not always better

Sleep does not respond to effort in the same way as work, exercise or normal human problem-solving. Increasing effort can create greater alertness and make the desired result with sleep less likely.
