How We Are Different
Our Philosophy
Sleep can feel worrying, frustrating and deeply unfair. We’re not here to pretend there’s a simple trick that makes this disappear, but real change can happen.
01
Sleep is not another problem to solve
Most of life rewards effort. If something breaks, we fix it. If something hurts, we look for relief. If something is not working, we try harder.
Sleep can be different*.
At night, more effort can backfire. Trying to force or solve sleep usually makes the night feel more pressured.
Sluzzle starts from a different place: sleep is not a performance task. It’s something we learn to make space for.
*Referring to general difficulty sleeping in adults, not diagnosed sleep disorders, such as sleep apnoea or narcolepsy.
02
A busy mind is not the enemy
A racing mind can feel like the thing ruining your sleep. But fighting with your mind often creates even more struggle.
The clinicians behind Sluzzle don’t teach you to switch off your thoughts on command. That’s impossible and isn’t how minds work.
Instead, we help you learn different ways to relate to thoughts, worries and “what if?” spirals, so they do not have to dominate the whole night.
You do not need to win an argument with every thought before you are allowed to rest.
03
Less can sometimes be more
Many people who struggle with sleep are usually already doing a lot.
They are tracking, striving, researching, comparing, worrying, trying new things, avoiding mistakes and searching for the thing that will always work.
Sluzzle is not here to add more pressure. We are not here to sell you another thing to put beside your bed.
We want to help you move towards something simpler and more longstanding with sleep.
04
Sleep is part of life, not your whole of life
When sleep becomes difficult, it can start taking over everything. Your evenings, your plans, your responsibilities, your confidence, your mood, your sense of what tomorrow will be like.
Sluzzle helps you to widen the lens again.
The aim isn’t to ignore sleep or pretend that it’s not an issue.
It’s to stop sleep becoming the centre of your life and something that dictates your day. Often, the more we reconnect with what really matters to us during the day, the less trapped we feel by what happens at night.
05
We offer skills, not another quick fix
Sluzzle Experts draw especially on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy because these are well-established psychological approaches for working with difficult thoughts, stress, worry, frustration, pressure and self-criticism.
They are not magic tricks. They are not sleep hacks. They are skills, and skills take time and practice.
They’re skills you can learn and take into your real life, with the aim of helping sleep feel less loaded, less frightening, and less of a problem for you.
06
We don’t promise perfect sleep
No one can honestly guarantee you a perfect night’s sleep. No course, app, substance or expert can honestly promise that difficult nights will never happen again.
So we do not make that promise. But that does not mean nothing can change.
Sluzzle psychologists are here to help you respond differently to the tricky thoughts and feelings that show up at night - with less panic, less stress and less self-criticism, and more kindness and flexibility.
The aim is not to control every night. The aim is to make sleep less of a battle.
